Honored to Speak at Beijing Film Academy’s International Alliance for Film & Media Art Education

I was honored to speak at the International Alliance for Film & Media Art Education hosted by the Beijing Film Academy, where I explored how procedural workflows, generative AI, and real‑time technologies are reshaping creative education. Through international case studies spanning film, architecture, engineering, and cultural heritage projects across Asia, the session highlighted how intelligent technologies can empower storytelling, preserve artistic identity, and prepare the next generation for the future of film and media art education.

It was a great honor to be invited to speak at the International Alliance for Film & Media Art Education, hosted by the Beijing Film Academy (BFA)—Asia’s largest film resource center and an institution renowned for shaping generations of filmmakers, including legendary alumni such as Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige

The gathering brought together educators, researchers, and industry leaders to explore how intelligent technologies are redefining the future of creative education.

Beyond the Frame: Intelligent Technologies Empowering Creative Education

My session, “Beyond the Frame: Intelligent Technologies Empowering Creative Education” (超越画框:智能技术赋能创意教育), examined how proceduralism, generative AI, and real‑time game engines are transforming how we teach, design, and preserve artistic expression.

The talk focused on moving beyond traditional pipelines toward intelligent, scalable workflows that support storytelling, experimentation, and cultural continuity.

case studies from major initiatives across Asia

To ground these ideas in practice, I shared case studies from major initiatives across Asia, including the virtual reconstruction of the Manila Central Post Office for UAP NATCON49 in the Philippines, procedural storytelling and large‑scale fantasy worldbuilding showcased at Korea’s 100X Conference, and virtual world creation from real environments presented at the SPARKS International Conference.

Additional examples included applying procedural thinking to engineering education at ICDEE, Tianjin University, developing the “Old Shanghai Street” cultural memory project for Unreal Fest Shanghai – Education Summit, and cross‑disciplinary training programs at The University of Hong Kong that empower educators and students through real‑time and procedural technologies.

smart workflows for scalable content creation, AI as a creative collaborator

Key themes throughout the session included smart workflows for scalable content creation, AI as a creative collaborator in image analysis and virtual world generation, digital literacy as a foundation for future‑ready arts education, and the role of virtual environments in preserving culture and identity

The conversations that followed were thoughtful and energizing, reflecting a shared curiosity and commitment to advancing creative education in meaningful ways.

The event truly embodied the theme of Innovation · Heritage · Synergy

The event truly embodied the theme of Innovation · Heritage · Synergy. My heartfelt thanks to the organizing team and leadership at Beijing Film Academy for creating such an inspiring platform.

The atmosphere at the Huairou Campus, along with the passion of its faculty and students, made this an unforgettable experience.

As a regional speaker and trainer, I feel deeply privileged to collaborate with educators and innovators across Asia—working together to unite storytelling, technology, and heritage in shaping the future of film and media art education.
