Unreal Fest Shanghai – Education Summit

Speaking at Unreal Fest Shanghai – Education Summit was a deeply meaningful milestone in my journey as an educator and practitioner. Being invited by Epic Games and sharing the stage with some of the most passionate and dedicated Unreal Engine educators in the region was both an honor and a privilege.

What made this summit especially memorable was the opportunity to connect with the local education community in Shanghai through my session, “Empowering Education in Asia: Custom Unreal Engine Content, Localized Training, and Culturally Rich Presentations.”

Unreal Fest Shanghai – Old Shanghai Street

To celebrate the spirit of the city and its audience, I developed a custom “Old Shanghai Street” educational project. For many attendees, these streets were more than digital environments—they represented cultural heritage and personal memory.

The warm reception and heartfelt applause were deeply moving, reinforcing the idea that education can bridge technology and culture, connecting the past with the future.

Unreal Fest Shanghai – AAA‑level educational content

During the session, I shared practical insights into how Unreal Engine can be used to elevate education. This included approaches to creating AAA‑level educational content, such as a large-scale showcase developed for the United Architects of the Philippines National Convention (NATCON49). I also demonstrated how Procedural Content Generation (PCG) can be used to construct expansive worlds efficiently, drawing on examples like a fantasy environment built for Korea University’s 100X Conference

In addition, I discussed strategies for integrating Unreal Engine into classrooms, supported by case studies such as a neon-lit Hong Kong street project created for the University of Hong Kong.

Unreal Fest Shanghai – Attendees

Beyond my own session, it was inspiring to learn from the 11 other speakers, who generously shared their students’ work, teaching methods, and educational philosophies.

The exchange of ideas with fellow educators and attendees created an energetic and supportive environment, reminding us that we grow strongest when knowledge is shared openly. The humility, warmth, and generosity throughout the summit made it a truly special experience.

Unreal Fest Shanghai – Epic Games Team

My sincere thanks go to the Epic Games team—Julie Lottering, Laura Johnston, Chris Ebeling, Ella Chen, Steven Shi, and many others behind the scenes—for their dedication and heartfelt support.

I am also grateful to the technical crew and the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Parkview team for their professionalism and care. Special appreciation goes to Cheerie Tan for her invaluable contribution to the “Old Shanghai Street” educational project; your support made a meaningful difference.

Unreal Fest Shanghai – new technologies—together

Shanghai’s unique blend of tradition and innovation provided the perfect backdrop for this gathering. The experience is one I will always treasure, and a reminder that as educators, our work goes beyond tools and technologies—it is about empowering people, honoring culture, and inspiring the next generation.

Old streets, new technologies—together shaping the future of learning.
